Welcome to Traverse City West Junior High School, home to approximately 1375 students in grades 7-9.  A highly qualified caring, committed staff at West provide excellent opportunities in academic endeavors, fine arts programs, foreign languages, physical education, sports, and music options.  Our “school within a school” structure personalizes our high expectations with innovative, research-based instructional practices.  We have been diligently working in partnership with Harvard University creating the Artful Thinking Palette, an instructional tool to enhance how we help students make our thinking visible, relevant, and rigorous in all areas of study.  Teaching for meaning, establishing a classroom culture of inquiry and excitement, working collaboratively, and deepening understanding supports our school initiative of Creating a Culture of Thinking.
