p. 43 (Maudie)
“His name’s Arthur and he’s alive.” This quote is significant because Maudie defends Arthur by telling people he is a human being with a name, who is alive and well. Just because someone may be different, it does not mean that they don’t have feelings. Maudie wants Arthur to be respected.

Hypocrite (Atticus)
“…if I didn’t I couldn’t hold my head up in town, I
couldn’t represent this country in the legislature, I couldn’t even
tell you or Jem not to do something again.” This quote is important because Atticus knew that if he didn’t defend Tom, who was a black man, he wouldn’t be able to walk the streets as a proud and respectable man.
p. 90 (Atticus)
“Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit ‘em, but
remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” |
