Blue

By Abby Calcutt

A midnight blue hovers in my shadow as she slowly engulfs me in her sadness. The night is young as the stars shine through the icy mist. I slowly turn my rudder. Closing my eyes, I sail, gliding along the motionless water. I am lost without you, my only light to guide me through an unforgiving darkness, my compass directing me through a maze of emotions and my true north, trusting in everything and sure of nothing. The sea is deep, cold, and uncharted. Whales breach on the horizon before they dive into the dark depths. Time passes, and the midnight sky fades to dawn. She comforts me with her warmth, wrapping me up in her kindness. A blanket of light falls serenely from the sky, elegantly forming a canopy over my shivering soul. The water thickens to glass as my toe glide on the surface and vanilla sprinkles fall from the heavens coating the smooth surface. My dream slowly evaporates as I awake in your arms, gazing at the midnight blue.
