MICHIGAN CYBER SAFETY INITIATIVE

The Michigan Cyber Safety Initiative (Michigan CSI) is an Internet safety education program with customized presentations for kindergarten through 8th grade students and a community seminar.  The program was designed through the MI Attorney General’s office with the goal of educating families in our communities about Internet predators, how we can help protect children, and how kids can protect themselves and their families.  All Michigan schools have been invited to participate in the Michigan CSI launch during the 2007-2008 school year.

Our WJH 8th graders will see the MI-CSI presentation Wednesday, November 7th, during the school day.

There is more information about the program, the handouts that will be distributed, a parent/child contract, and an “Opt Out” letter on the website.

Start at: http://www.mi.gov/ag , scroll down to “Key Initiatives”, and click on “Cyber Safety Initiative”.  After reading the top section, scroll down to and click on “Handouts”.  Once on the handouts page, scroll down to “6-8:”.  We will be using the Keep Safe, Keep Away, Keep Telling (K-8) handout, and encouraging the use of the Online Safety Contract.   Also at the bottom of this page are links to videos and tutorials.

If you prefer not to have your 8th grader attend the presentation, see page 2 of this newsletter for the Opt Out Letter.  Please complete the bottom portion and have your child drop it off in the 8th grade office Tuesday or Wednesday morning.  If you have questions, please reply to this e-mail or call 933-8261.
