OMPS PTO GENERAL MEETING MINUTES 1/20/04
President Christine Henton called the meeting to order at 7:12 p.m.
Secretary's Report: Leslie Casperson: November minutes were reviewed. No changes.
Treasurer's Report: Katie Myers No formal report given. No activity in December or January , except deposits for popcorn sales.
Teacher's Report: Terry Smith: The Jump Rope Lady was fantastic!
Principal's Report: Sue Strabel: Would like to invite Jump Rope Lady back in the future.
Sue has accumulated a folder full of ideas for ways to spend the money raised by Jog-a-thon for playground improvements. Would like the PTO to establish an ad hoc committee to decide on a plan. Other opportunities for funding are available. The Rotary Charities grant can match up to $5,000.00 for playground equipment.
Carnival is February 27. The alternate date in case of bad weather/school cancellation will be the following Monday, March 1, 2004.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Carnival: Cathy Spanski, Chair (not present). Redemption prizes and raffle basket items have been ordered. New this year will be a Bounce House! The PTO suggested 4 tickets at $.25 each to bounce.
Pasta: Peggy Corso, Chair (not present). Flyers are ready to send.
Letters will be sent to families requesting donated items that a family might make
or have as a unique item or specialty.
The PTO recommended purchasing a kayak set (2 kayaks, 4 paddles) for
$600.00, to be raffled off at $5 per ticket or 5 for $20. It will take 120
tickets to recoup the cost. Also the PTO suggests the funds raised by Pasta not be
earmarked for any particular project to maintain flexibility in the budget.
Spirit Wear: no activity.
Enrichment: Linda Orr. Chair: Handed out a flyer and suggested OMPS
participate in an after school Puppet and Mask Theater and Dance program that
has an environmental message. Perhaps the PTO could provide scholarships for
kids to participate?
Hospitality Committee: Needs a count of teachers for the parent /teacher night
dinner and is soliciting volunteers to help serve. Also needs a count for cookies for
Pasta night. Also advised to get 75 pizzas from Dino's for Carnival.
BUSINESS
Old Business: The PTO and Strabel will soon organize a committee to address
the playground improvements. If interested contact Sue Strabel.
New Business:
