Welcome to East Middle School
The mission of Traverse City East Middle School, a nurturing supportive grades sixth through nine community
is to guide all students in their continuing quest of lifelong learning through positive reinforcement of intellectual, social, emotional, and physical balance.
- EMS scored higher than state averages when looking at each of the tested areas of the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP)
- EMS scored higher than national averages on each of the tested areas of the ACT-Plan assessment.
- Seven EMS Students qualified for county-wide spelling bee.
- 9 of our 8th grade band students qualified and will participate in the MSBOA District 2 Honors Band on Friday, March 9, in Boyne City.
- East Middle Schools average eighth grade scores on the ACT-Explore Test exceeded national averages.
Full-Year Foreign Language Opportunity Offered to
Sixth Grade Students in the 2008-2009 School Year!
Sixth grade students will have the option to participate in a full-year foreign language course upon entering middle school in the 2008-2009 school year. Students can select one of the following elective offerings:
- Full-Year Spanish Course, or
- Full-Year Explorations (explores four subject areas for a period of nine weeks each: foreign language, art, technology education, and family and consumer science).

Free and Reduced Meal Application
The TCAPS free and reduced meal application is now available online! Please visit www.lunchapp.com and follow the instructions for the Traverse City Area Public Schools. This option allows you to complete the free and reduced application online and submit it electronically, saving time and money. You will still receive an approval letter though the mail, but your application may be approved faster. If you have questions regarding the online free and reduced meal application please contact the TCAPS food service department at 231-933-1910. Visit the TCAPS Foodservice website to view school lunch menus, nutritional analysis and food allergen listings, and family friendly nutrition information.
