Media Moments
| During the month of
September students in kindergartner through second grade were part of
Michigan Reads! 2007, one-state, one-children's book program
presented by the Library of Michigan with the generous sponsorship from
Target.
Our library received a copy of the featured children's book and during the week of September 24th our students heard "Big Chickens" by Leslie Helakoski. We, "pwocked, flocked, rocked" with four timid chickens through their humorous romp through the woods, overcoming obstacles along the way and conquering their fears as we shared their adventure. For information on this book and author, visit www.helakoskibooks.com. Our Library received the books that were ordered with the from the grant provided by the Quota Club of Traverse City. A special presentation was given to the Quota Club so they could see the materials and how they were used. A very special "Thank You " to our Kids Hope Program for the generous donation of "When Dinosaurs Came With Everything" by Elise Broach. The book will be available to check out soon! Terry Wooten Poetry filled the library Friday, January 19, 2007 when Central Grade 4th -6th grade students had the opportunity to hear Terry Wooten. Not only did he share his poems of the other authors but his own including: The Bear and Coyote's Back.
Annie DeVries The week of January 29, 2007 brought a guest reader to the library. Annie DeVries, parent and author of M is for Mitten read her book and shared stories from her research for the book. Students from all grades enjoyed her presentations and learned a lot about Michigan.
Buck Wilder Tim Smith, author of the Buck Wilder books, presented to some of our students on Tuesday, April 17th. The students learned a lot about nature and safety, as well the new series Tim Smith has written |
