The Geo Bee consists of four levels: classroom, school, state, and nation.  The classroom level consists of seven rounds with different questions for each student.  The winner from each class in grades four, five, and six go on to compete in the school bee.  During the next level of competition, students are asked questions until they get two wrong, at which time they are eliminated. The competition continues until there are only two contestants left.  At that point, each finalist receives three questions.  The one who gets the most questions right is the winner of the school Geography Bee.

The National Geography Bee is a nationwide contest for schools. Students in grades 4 - 8 may participate.

The Bee is an educational outreach program of the National Geographic Society, designed to encourage

the teaching and study of geography. Bee questions, which are provided by the Society, follow guidelines established by the National Geography Standards.

The format calls for brief answers, usually only a word or phrase. Questions may require the interpretation of maps, graphs, and photographs.

The three levels of competition are: school, state, and national. Classroom bees were held in December to determine these finalists.
