Noreen Kennedy is a Reading and Learning specialist. This year, she has two positions. One, she is a Reading and Recovery Teacher which requires many hours of specialized training in reading and writing. In this position, she works with first grade students in 1:1 tutoring and works with K-2 students in literacy groups. Her students position is Literacy Coach. This position is geared toward staff development. She assists teachers as they learn new methods of teaching, as well as, teaching and learning strategies. This position allows her time to teach ans interact with students and teachers in the classroom. She LOVES the opportunity to be in classrooms working with students. She has taught all subjects in grades K-6. Parent education meetings are also an important component of her job.
Ms. Kennedy received her Masters Degree in Reading from Michigan State University. She also has degrees in language arts, math, and science. Her B.A. degree in elementary education is from Eastern Michigan University. She, also, has a degree in Art, Music and Drama. This is Ms. Kennedy's fifteenth year at Central Grade. During her 27 year teaching career, she has received many honors in education.
She thoroughly enjoys living and working in Traverse City. Often you will see her gardening, golfing, skiing, snowshoeing, dancing, traveling, reading, drawing and playing, listening and playing music, going to theatre, and restoring her 100 year old home.
