Ms. O'Hearn is a native to the Traverse City area, having graduated from Traverse City Central High School. Her senior year of high school she was a Rotary exchange student to Norway. She went to Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado and received her undergraduate degree in political science. Upon graduating, Emily traveled the world for nine months exploring Nepal, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, the eastern coast of Australia and rounding out the trip in Europe. Once back on US soil, Emily felt the urge to go abroad again and landed a teaching position in Japan, where she taught English to junior high students in Hikone, Japan. 

    Interested in teaching, Emily went back to school through the university center and received her second undergraduate degree through Central Michigan University in elementary education, major in social studies, minors in child development and reading. Emily also has a master in curriculum and instruction and secondary certification from Ferris State University. 

    Before coming to Central Grade Elementary, Emily taught for three years in the Bellaire Public Schools teaching Title 1, begindergarten and 5th grade math and science. She enjoys running, gong to the beach, camping, skiing, and spending time with her husband Charlie, and their dog Share.
