Central
Grade School PTO November
18, 2008 Cafeteria,
6:30 p.m. Welcome
by Heather Budnik, President 6:36
Meeting called to order 4
officers present, 23 members present Announcements: 1.
Fall Festival Wrap-Up: Heather
spoke to how wonderful this event was. How much fun the kids had. It was
a great event for Central and it's families to come together for a night
of fun. She thanked the committee, Pam Robbins, Annie DeVries and Stacy
Walston. She thanked all the volunteers who helped and baked. It could
not have happened without them. 2.
Festival of Trees: Thanks so much to Sara Newcomb and Heather Durocher
for heading this up at the last minute. When Heather passed this event
to them she thought they had a month to prepare when in fact they had
only 1 week. So they did it in very short notice and without any
complaints. The trees will be on display at the Hagerty Center on the
NMC Campus.
3. Art in the Park: $500 was agreed upon and approved to e given
to this program. 4.
PTO Bylaws re: voting: clarification given on voting, officers will make
motions, all members present will be able to vote. 5.
Volunteers needed: office has asked for volunteers for cutting various
materials for teachers, contact office. Teacher’s
Report: Thank you to the Teacher’s Reps!
4 teachers still do not have reps–interested parents can email
their teacher to know if they all have reps. Question
re: how to buy/reimburse items for classrooms- Mrs. Harmeson’s rep and
when popcorn money will be deposited (Mr. Cartwright) end of November.
Mrs. Lyon didn’t know she had money from PTO, often doesn’t check
email. $7.50 per student is given to each classroom (based on 4th
Friday count.) Secretary’s
Report: Minutes from October meeting were approved. 7:05
Treasurer’s Report: PAGE
is a new line item on our budget Fall
Festival made a profit of $130 (brought in $710 and expenses pd out were
$580.95) See
attached budget for other debits/credits. Swimming-topic
brought up: (Gena O’Kane) need for it in our community, no money in
the account for lessons (previously were paid for for 3rd
graders). Gena is checking into expense. Preschool
playground area-(parent) is very restricted, also is a known concern of
ps teachers, does affect parent’s choice of where to send their
children. **Follow
up with this next meeting.
Fundraising
Report: January
Fundraiser-Basketball game, staff vs. parents Montessori
would like to purchase one of our three popcorn machines. Discussion
was open, Allison made a motion to do so and Stacy seconded that motion.
Motion passed. No price was decided upon at this time. 7:35-Principal
Report: Thank
you to all for Fall Festival, looking forward to basketball fundraiser,
which is always a big success. Communication-challenging
this year, continuing to work on it.
Staff Development Day was held recently, Mrs. Dionne meets with
staff 3 times a month for 40 minutes, and all other communication is via
email. Parents
were encouraged to come visit student’s morning announcements. Sharon
spoke of her upcoming mini-sabbatical to India. Mary Sue Heidbrink, a
TCAPS retired principal, will be taking her place between Thanksgiving
and Christmas, until she returns. 7:45
New Business- Communication
Ideas- 700 families, teacher reps are collecting email addresses from
families, with difficulty. New
auto call system will be in place soon for district. Suggestion were to
add a form to the beginning of the year packet for PTO email and phone
numbers. Classroom directories were discussed. **This will be continued
at next meeting. Teacher
Christmas Gift Idea: Parents/students would purchase a star or angel in
honor of a teacher, and money goes to child/family in need.
Other ideas of stars on trees were discussed, with classroom
materials on it. The
consensus was one idea needs to be chosen or too confusing.
The initial idea was passed.
Will be in effect very soon, due to holidays approaching. Thank
you to Chris Burn for heading up Spirit Wear.
Order forms went home earlier this week. Thank
you to Central High School students (Key Club members) for volunteering
to watch our children during the PTO meeting tonight. |
