Open House

*       An Open House will take place in the spring of ’08 for families to tour the building.

*       An Open House will take place prior to the beginning of the ’08 school year for students and families to meet classroom teachers and see classrooms.

*       Every effort will be made to make GL students feel comfortable at Central Grade.

 Staff/School Name/Classrooms/PTO

*       All certified staff from the closed buildings will have the opportunity to see the available assignments from across the district and work closely with Human Resources to determine teaching assignments.

*       Staffing assignments have not been determined at Central Grade.   

*       Classroom assignments will be determined in a combined effort by the current building administrator, gifted coordinator, special ed. director, Assistant Superintendent, GL principal, and the maintenance department.  This group will evaluate the needs of the students and the programs housed at Central Grade and determine room assignments.

*       Central staff will not be given preferential classroom placement.

*       The PTO provides scholarships for some families who may not be able to pay for fieldtrips. The classroom teachers have received approximately $9 per student this year from the PTO to use at their discretion for Scholastic News, fieldtrips, and/or classroom needs.

*       There is a spring fundraiser currently in the planning stages between the Central and GL PTO groups.  More details to follow.

*       The school name will not change. 

*       Could Central Grade update the school’s website to include staff biographies to include bios for the new staff?

Building Concerns

*       The space at Central is adequate for the additional student population.  

*       Classrooms will be re-organized in a way that makes sense. 

*       Sharon Dionne will provide a current playground schedule.

*       Sharon Dionne will provide a current lunch schedule.

*       The students/staff in the classrooms without sinks manage well. There are boys/girls restrooms off of the cafeteria and on both floors for water accessibility.

*       Class size is the same throughout the district and Central Administration determines this in a staff/student formula.

*       Security.  Currently all doors are kept locked throughout the day except for the main office and the Montessori office.  This will be re-evaluated for the ’08-’09 school year.

*       Several rooms have already been renovated at Central.   There are continued renovations planned for the future. 

*       The cafeteria, library and playground areas are not over-crowded with students. 

*       Classrooms are being renovated over time.  Numerous bookshelves have been purchased to help with any storage issues.  Staff has managed with the available space. 

Kindergarten Schedule

*       Kindergarten will be the same schedule is as it is this year.

*       Kindergarten attendance schedules will be known in the fall.

*       Young 5’s is not offered at Central.

*       Preschool is offered at Central and parents need to contact the preschool program to arrange placement for the fall.  An open house will be held in the spring for the preschool program.

*       Kindergarten round up will take place at Central Grade School toward the end of February with the date to be announced.

Munson Extended Care

*       Extended Care will be provided at Central but it has not been determined whom the provider will be.

Drop Off and Pick Up Areas

*       Drop off/pick up areas will be revised once the classroom placements are determined.  Maps will be provided to parents to help with the procedure. 

Lunch Schedule

*       All students have 20 minutes to eat and 20 minutes to play outside.  This is the same across the district.

Administrators and Office Staff   

*       Ongoing work with Central Office to determine secretarial/staff allocation based on student enrollment.         

*       There will not be a separate upper and early el office. 

Lockers

*       There is ongoing discussion with maintenance to ensure adequate locker space for all students.

Title

*       Currently there are two part-time Title aides, one full-time computer lab teacher, and additional student assistant worker time purchased with Title funds. 

*       30-40% is free & reduced lunch.

*       All subjects are covered with Title support.

Curriculum  

*       The pilot program is simply a revised edition of the current math program used with all students across the district.  

Starting Time

                        Current starting time is 8:00.  Times are set by the district.
