PARKING/DROP OFF AND PICK UP

Drop off and Pick up Safely !

Below is a map of the locations for drop off and pick up.  

If you drop off or pick up on Seventh or Eighth Streets, please do NOT turn down Pine or Wadsworth Streets to exit the area.  This causes congestion at the corners.  Please continue down one block before turning.

It would also be a big help to our Safety Patrol squad if you would motion them to cross students if you plan to wait.

Currently city officials and police officers have observed the following unsafe acts by our families. 

1. Cars not yielding to pedestrians

2. Cars blocking/parking on cross-walks;

3. Cars pull away from curb without using blinkers or yielding to traffic;

4. Cars not coming to a complete stop at the corners;

5. Cars occupying multiple lanes at stop sign approaches, creating blind spots for pedestrians;

6. Cars stopping in the middle of the street, blocking traffic and encouraging students to enter vehicles in the middle of the street;

7. Children running across the street instead of crossing at the corners;

8. Children entering/exiting on traffic side of vehicle;

9. Cars backing up while dropping off/ picking up students;

10. Cars being left unattended on school site while walking to pick up/drop of students. (All parents, except toddler parents in the designated toddler parking area, are asked to park in our parking lot or in other locations across or away from the school if choosing to walk.

ALL BUSES would drop-off and pick-up on Wadsworth Street.  TCAPS regular education buses would have a designated area on the north side (as indicated above).  ALL special Education buses MUST enter from Ninth Street turning north onto Wadsworth and would wait at the stop sign at Eight Street and Wadsworth until other special education buses depart allowing room for them to cross the intersection and pull up to the curb on Wadsworth. Patience is the key, you must wait your turn.  Pine Street loading and unloading will be prohibited for school buses. Young Peoples Theater buses would also park on Wadsworth and students would walk around the north side of the building on the sidewalk to enter through the doors on Pine Street.  Students will not be permitted to walk through the building to Lars Hockstad Auditorium.

Walkers

1.  Respect safety patrols

2.  Cross at corners

3.  Walk as you cross at crosswalks

4.  Walkers need to leave school grounds after dismissal

5.  Walk with adults if possible

Bikers

1. Bikers walk bikes across street and on school grounds

2. Helmets must be worn

3. Lock bikes while at school

4. Do not touch other bikes in the the racks except own.

Riders

1. Exit/enter on cub side of street, not into street

2. Never run across street to go to your car-go to a corner to cross

3. Please help your parents remember to pull up and drop off quickly

4. Please remind your parents not to turn on Pine or Wadsworth after drop off and pick up on 7th or 8th

5. Please remind your parent not to park in crosswalks

6. Help look out for each other and report unsafe situations

7. Remind your parents not to drop off or pick you up in the middle of the street

8. In bad weather remind your parents to leave early

9. Never cross between buses

Bus Riders

1. Stay back from curb as you are waiting for your bus

2. Stay seated and use quiet voices on the bus
